FAQs
This section is for quick reference, but if you have questions, I’m happy to answer them - feel free to contact me. (So you know, Autuus is a small team of pros, but I’ll be writing this from my perspective. ~Jeremey)
Can I plug this into a regular outlet?
No, you will need a dedicated circuit for the heater.
What kind of power is needed for my sauna?
Traditional sauna:
Each sauna requires a different kind of power depending on the heater, but all the units require 1) a standard plug (120 v) for the LED light, and 2) an additional 240v heater circuit. Here are the basic circuit requirements for heater sizing:
4.5 kW heaters (standard for all 2-person saunas) require a 240v, 25 amp (non-GFCI circuit)
6.0 kW heaters (standard for all 4-person saunas) require a 240v, 30 amp (non-GFCI circuit)
8.0 kW heaters (standard for all 6-person saunas) require a 240v, 40 amp (non-GFCI circuit)
I am happy to answer additional questions about electrical requirements. Contact me here.
Is everything included with the sauna kit?
Yes! Everything you need comes in the kit, including the sauna, glass door (which is pre-installed), plastic sauna supports, and heater. Delivery is even included at no additional charge on most purchases! (There are other accessories available to make your experience even better - check out those items here!)
Is professional installation included?
We offer professional installation which is available for an additional cost to the advertised prices. These units are designed to be set up as DIY kits, but many (if not most) of our customers either don’t have the time or the energy to set these up and would rather hire professionals. If that’s the case, installation usually adds between $500 (but can range up to $1,500 depending on the unit, the location that is being installed, etc.)
Does installation include electrical work?
Yes and no - running a new electrical circuit is not included in the price, however, we do connect the electrical connections from an existing circuit to the heater when all the electrical is in place. This allows us to commission (set-up and initially test) the heater at this point, too.
Can someone with no experience really install a sauna?
Do you have basic tools, the ability to follow simple instructions, and a little bit of patience as you put it together? Then YES! You can do this. Most people can install these units with very basic tools and find it pretty simple - kind of like the Lincoln Logs that many of us grew up playing with. (Simple does not necessarily mean easy - this certainly requires two people and some patience.)
How long does it take to install a DIY sauna?
The manufacturer claims that barrel saunas can be set up in as little as 2-3 hours with two people working on it. While that might be true for experienced installers, my experience is that it’s pretty unrealistic for the first-time installer. I usually tell customers to plan for a day of installing the barrel, which would include site prep, barrel construction, heater set up, testing, etc. (8-10 hours at a minimum). The electrical work should be done by a qualified person and adds some more planning before and after the barrel is constructed.
Can you come look at the space I want to put this?
Yes, of course! We charge a small consultation fee depending on your location, but here’s the kicker: if you purchase a sauna through Autuus Saunas, 100% of the consultation fee will be credited toward your purchase. The on-site inspection includes looking at your electrical, your proposed site(s), taking measurements, and providing you with professional advice and opinions, answering questions, etc. Essentially, this is not a fee for folks who choose to purchase something for us as it is credited toward their purchase.
Why do you charge for on-site visits?
Here’s the short and blunt answer: to avoid people who want to use my experience, knowledge, and time but don’t intend to purchase anything from us. Implementing this policy has allowed me to have more availability and provide the best service to my actual customers.
